Nathan Hillson is a Computational Senior Staff Scientist and the Department Head for Biodesign in the Biological Systems & Engineering Division of Berkeley Lab. He is the Chief Information Officer of the DOE Joint Bioenergy Institute, and the Principal Investigator of the DOE Agile BioFoundry. Dr. Hillson earned his Ph.D. in Biophysics from Harvard Medical School, and did his postdoctoral work in Developmental (Micro)Biology at Stanford University School of Medicine. Hillson's work includes roles in the private sector (notably as Co-Founder/Chief Scientific Officer at TeselaGen Biotechnologies), and his expertise spans synthetic biology, software engineering, and laboratory automation.

Dr. Rangachary Mukundan (Mukund) is a senior Scientist in the Energy Technology area at Berkeley Lab. He is deputy director in DOE’s Million Mile Fuel Cell Truck (M2FCT) and Hydrogen from Next generation Electrolyzers of Water (H2NEW) consortia. Mukund is the co-inventor on 8 US patents, and has over 190 publications. He has many awards including two R&D 100 awards (1999, 2017) and Sensor Division outstanding achievement award (2016). He is a fellow of the ECS and AAAS, served on the Board of Directors of the Electrochemical Society from 2006-2008, and was technical editor in the area of Sensors and Measurement Sciences for ECS Journals from 2011 to 2018.
